“Rwanda will be a Global Competitive Knowledge-based Economy through Digital skills education” said by REB Management
On 18th October 2023, the meeting between all District Directors of Education and Rwanda Basic Education Board held at IPRC Musanze, focusing on the progress of Digital Skills Foundation Program in all districts, and discussing on how to push for Teachers and Students completion and obtain an internationally accredited certificate.
Madame Jeannine Usabuwera (Secondary Schools Digital Content Engineer) on behalf of Director General of REB said that in vision 2050, Rwanda will be a Global Competitive Knowledge-based Economy. One strategy is to ensure digital literacy for all youth (16 to 30 years) by 2024 through implementation of a national digital literacy program with the objective of achieving digital literacy of at least 60% among adults by 2024. This will be supplemented by initiatives to develop local contents and facilitate citizens (Including people with disabilities) to access digital devices that will enable them use online services.
In her remarks Delhia Cornillon, Country Project Director at Digital Skills Foundation said that there are districts that are performing well and reminds others to imitate them. We wish to end this session at the end of this year by giving international accredited certificate to teachers and students who will pass.
We leaders are the catalyzers for this to happen. On our side, we shall keep putting much efforts to support you such that we reach the desired target. She added
In the meeting, DDEs were shared with the three best performing district which are ranked as such as MUSANZE as the first district to perform well with 44.9%, KICUKIRO as the second district is at 41.6% then GICUMBI is the third district with 41.6%. These leaders decided to mobilize schools to finish courses for both teachers and students (focusing on S6/L5 and S5/L4) by November 2023.
DDEs were shared with the progress of students and their performance per Schools. The District Directors of Education discussed the way forward with program and decide to put more efforts by creating extra time for self-studies and avail smart classrooms for both teachers and students to access them.
Rwanda Basic Education Board in partnership with Digital Skills Foundation will certify teachers and learners at the end of this year. These certificates are internationally accredited which will be an advantage to teachers and students where it can help them have an extra chance to not only to perform their duties but also get jo opportunities. DDEs requested the responsible entities to give them access to dashboard such that they be part of the team and encourage teachers and students basing on the facts.
